Truly Free... To Know God

One of the keynote speakers at CLC 2013 will be Josef Sykora. Josef and his wife, Lynette, are involved in multicultural ministries that include member care for missionaries and training and education for church planters and laypeople in Free Methodist fellowships. The Sykoras live in Bratislava, Slovakia where Josef pastors the local Cirkev Bratska (Church of the Slovak Brethren) congregation of more than 400 members. Josef is a Ph.D. candidate at Durham University in England. Lynette is involved in counseling, though her primary role is a stay-at-home mom. The Sykoras have two very active sons -- Simon and Luke.

Truly Free... From Prostitution

Joining our list of CLC 2013 speakers is Sakia Wishart, who works in Amsterdam with the international anti-human trafficking NGO, Not For Sale Campaign. Personally, she began combating the issue of human trafficking in 2008 while living in South Africa. She has several areas of experience in taking action; from prevention and mass media awareness, to identification and intervention, to the designing of new futures for survivors of trafficking. She assisted in the founding of Not For Sale South Africa, at which time she ran the "Red Card Campaign," which focused on raising awareness about sex trafficking and the 2010 World Cup. She organized a country-wide "Stop Paying for Slavery" tour and, using the skills she learned through NFS training, her team went on to identify or assist with the cases of 52 victims of human trafficking. In 2012 Saskia moved to the Netherlands and is currently working in Amsterdam on an innovative social enterprise that seeks to empower vulnerable women through skills training that focuses on creating dignified employment for survivors of exploitation.

You can read about Saskia's work on the streets of Amsterdam in her article, below, that appeared in Issue 7 of the Eye See Magazine.

Truly Free... From Modern-Day Slavery

We are happy to announce that Kevin Austin will join us at CLC 2013 as a workshop presenter. Kevin is the founder and director of The Set Free Movement, an organization affiliated with the Free Methodist Church that champions holistic freedom and seeks to create new futures for survivors and those vulnerable to modern-day slavery. The Set Free Movement advocates for community-based smart activism -- justice flowing out of our lives together with Christ at the center. Holistic freedom is pursued -- God wants to set us free physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. There is a relational component to this as well. We all work together practicing compassion without conditions.

The Free Methodist Church, with roots in the 19th Century abolitionist movement, is again championing the cause of holistic freedom. Then, as now, Free Methodists have a special preference for the poor and those who are vulnerable to injustice.

Kevin and his family served for seven years as missionaries with the Free Methodist Church in Thailand.
